Macro Shoot Wednesday October 25

Glycerine on a wire screen produces a series of tiny "lenses" that create eerie
effects of whatever subject is behind the screen. This is just one of the many macro
setups that will be available for next Wednesday night's hands-on program.

Here's your chance to try out and refine your technique on a variety of macro photographic equipment - from macro lenses, close-up supplementary lenses, tele-converters, reversed lenses, extension tubes, bellows, stacked lenses, and even a laboratory microscope. The pool of equipment for the evening fits Nikon and Canon SLR bodies, but many items will fit any camera that accepts threaded filters. Members are encouraged to bring in any macro-related equipment they have, and if you'd like, share your excess equipment and expertise with the group.

We will have a wide variety of items to photograph - and you are encouraged to bring in items of your own. These include butterfly wings with iridescent scales, flowers, minerals, feathers, foreign stamps, watch gears, fabrics, integrated circuit chips, diatoms, human tissue, bug parts, candy, and much more.

New for this year will be wire screens and glycerine, to produce rain drop effects (see above). The best subjects behind the screen are those with strong, simple lines and colors. Let's see who can come up with the most creative composition!

Some setups will be lit by daylight-balanced tungsten lights, while others will use strobes. So everyone should be able to shoot, even if they have had trouble triggering external strobes in the past.

Bring a tripod, if you have one. If you are shooting film, a higher speed (ISO 200-400) daylight-balanced variety would be most versatile.

The event starts at 7:30PM and will run until about 9:00PM, on Wednesday 10/25/06. It is at the Framingham Elks Club (where we hold our regular meetings), and it is free to members.
