Raptor Shoot Wednesday, September 27

If you are new to the Boston West Photographic Society - or you just weren't around last September - you are in for a real treat if you take advantage of our annual Raptor Shoot. BWPS arranges for falcons, hawks, and owls to be brought to the Elks and photographed.

There will be two lighting setups using studio strobes, so there is no need for a tripod. In fact, a tripod will just slow you down.

When it is your turn to shoot, try some different croppings for your image. You might try one full-length shot, one medium-length (such as the shot of the kestrel to the right), and a nice tight close-up.

Birds are great models, but they don't exactly turn your way when you call them. You can increase your chances of a great shot by being focused and framed and all ready to shoot when the bird does turn toward you.

The event begins at 7:30PM and goes until about 9:00PM. There is a $15 per person shooting fee to cover the cost of getting the birds.
