Boston West is a member of the Photographic
Society of America, or PSA. Among the many activities that PSA
sponsors are international slide competitions among PSA's various
member clubs across the United States, Canada, and Europe. Boston
West competes in both the Color Slide, or "Open" competition, and in
the PSA Nature interclubs. In Color Slide there are 100 member clubs
competing, organized into five classes of 20 clubs each (Classes A
to E, with Class A being the highest). Each year the top 3 clubs in
each class advance to the next highest class, and the bottom 3 clubs
move down to the next lower class. Boston West, as a new club, would
normally have started in Class E, the lowest class. But due to the
record of PSA achievement of our makers as part of Gateway, PSA
headquarters granted Boston West an exemption, and placed our club
into Class A (in both Color Slide and Nature). This means that
Boston West is competing at the very highest level of international
camera club competitions.

The first NECCC Nature
Interclub of the season was judged October 10th at the Greater Lynn
Photographic Association. There were 18 entries in Class A and 14 in
Class B.
Boston West Photographic Society is off
to a great start this year. We are competing in the top class (Class A) and came
in 4th place (out of 18 clubs). There was a 3-way tie for first. Charter Oak
PS, Greater Lynn PA, and New Haven CC each earned 95 points. BWPS had 91
points, and 5th place Nashoba Valley CC had 90 points.
Hopefully we'll be able to make up some lost ground in the remaining two
competitions of the season and finish in the top three. That
would be a really great way to end our first season of regional competition!
Congratulations to Ed
McGuirk on his 3rd place slide! Ed shared the third place with four
other slides. There were two slides that tied for first with 27 points
each.
Many thanks to the
makers who graciously allowed BWPS to use their slides in this
interclub. We really appreciate everyone's efforts to help establish
our new club as a dominant force in interclub competitions.
