BWPS CompetitionsCurrent Club Competition Results: Digital ResultsA big part of the reason that Boston West Photographic Society exists is that its members like to participate in image competitions. BWPS features 7 digital competitions, one digital nature competition, one creative digital competition and one landscape/travel competition during the club season from September through June. Paid members of BWPS can take part in the competitions. Dues need to be paid before October 1. Reasons for taking part in competitions vary from one photographer to the next, but they include:
For the 2008--2009 season, BWPS members are allowed to submit up to THREE images per digital competition. There are 3 digital classes of competition: Digital Class B, for beginners; Digital Class A, for intermediates; and Digital Class AA, for masters. If you aren't sure which class to enter, just talk with the Competition Chair, Steve Iadorola, and he will steer you in the right direction. If Steve doesn't know you, he might ask to see some of your recent work, which will help place you in the correct class. Once you enter a class, you must remain in that class for the remainder of the season. We use an In/Out scoring system, where 50% of the images for each class are selected for ribbons by the judge. The selected images are then awarded blue or red ribbons. For the purposes of cumulative season scoring, you receive 1 point for each image you enter, then you receive 2 points for each blue ribbon you are awarded, and 1 point for each red ribbon. If you enter 4 images, your total score for any one competition can range from 4 points (1 point for each entry and no ribbons) to 12 points (1 point for each entry plus 4 blue ribbons). Remember, the deadline for submitting digital images is the Sunday prior to the competition. See the Calendar for specific dates.
